The exhibition “Sacred Heritage for Serbs in Canada,” featuring the work of Serbian photographer Miodrag Miša Branković, was presented to Serbian communities and Canadian audiences in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal from September 3 to 6, 2026. Organized under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Canada and supported by Move Global / Telekom Srbija, the exhibition opened on September 3 at the Serbian Heritage Academy of Canada in Toronto. It continued in Ottawa on September 5 as part of the 19th Serbian Festival before concluding on September 6 at Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Montreal. The exhibition featured 15 unique photographs showcasing important Serbian sacred sites and offering visitors a visual connection to the country’s spiritual, historical and cultural heritage. Through his photography, Branković presents these sites from a personal artistic perspective, while his presence at the events allowed visitors to learn more about the locations he photographed and the stories and inspiration behind the images.
During the Ottawa presentation, held as part of the 19th Serbian Festival, Serbian Ambassador to Canada Stefan Tomašević spoke about the importance of cultural projects that help preserve spiritual traditions and cultural identity among Serbian communities abroad. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining connections between the Serbian diaspora and the homeland, noting the role that cultural initiatives can play in keeping those ties strong across generations. The exhibition’s tour through Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal offered audiences across Canada an opportunity to explore important parts of Serbian spiritual and cultural heritage through photography. By bringing these sacred places closer to people living far from Serbia, the project also provided a way for members of the diaspora and the wider Canadian public to learn more about the history, traditions and cultural heritage represented by these sites.
