A fire in a basement apartment in Novi Sad forced firefighters to evacuate 32 residents during the night, with four people reported injured and one suffering more serious injuries. The Novi Sad fire broke out shortly after 1 a.m. in a building on Vuka Karadžića Street.

Firefighters Rescue Residents Through Thick Smoke

The fire broke out in a basement apartment, which was completely destroyed. Thick smoke spread throughout the building, leaving several residents trapped inside their apartments.

Four firefighting vehicles arrived at the scene, and members of the Novi Sad Fire and Rescue Battalion began evacuating residents from the smoke-filled building. A total of 32 people were safely evacuated.

Among those evacuated were both younger and older residents. According to reports, some were assisted by firefighters as they made their way out of the building.

The entire building had to be evacuated after smoke spread toward the upper floors. Reports also said that calls for help could be heard from apartments shortly before firefighters arrived.

Four People Injured, One Seriously

Four people were injured in the Novi Sad fire, while one person reportedly suffered more serious injuries. Emergency medical teams also responded at the scene.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established. An investigation is expected to determine how the fire started.
