NIS is awaiting a U.S. decision on whether it can continue operating after its current special license expires today. The Serbian oil company has submitted a new request to the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for an extension of the license.
NIS said that uninterrupted operations, the regular operation of the Pančevo Oil Refinery and the orderly supply of the market are crucial for maintaining energy stability in Serbia.
NIS Awaits OFAC Decision
The company is waiting for a response from OFAC on its request for a new special license that would allow NIS to continue operating after the previously approved license expires.
The current license expires today, leaving NIS awaiting a decision from U.S. authorities on whether its operations can continue under a renewed authorization.
Other Deadlines Also Expire Today
Today also marks the deadline for negotiations between Hungary’s MOL and Russia’s Gazprom Neft over the potential sale of NIS, in which Gazprom Neft holds a majority ownership stake.
At the same time, the gas arrangement between Serbia and Russia is also expiring. Its extension was announced by former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who discussed the matter by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
