Students in blockade have announced a major rally in Niš for October 10, as their movement continues campaigning ahead of Serbia’s parliamentary election later this month.
The gathering is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at King Milan Square in central Niš, according to Danas. The Studentska lista, backed by the student movement, is taking part in the October 25 parliamentary election.
The Students in Blockade group at the University of Niš announced the rally on social media on Monday, inviting citizens from across Serbia to attend.
In their announcement, the students described a crossroads as a place where a direction is chosen and said the choice is “always up to us.”
They said they were choosing a path toward what they described as a healthier, better educated, wealthier and fairer Serbia.
“See you on October 10 in Niš, the city where change begins,” the group said in its announcement.
Rally scheduled for October 10 in central Niš
The Niš gathering is the latest in a series of events organized by the student movement during the campaign for Serbia’s October 25 parliamentary election.
Candidates from the Studentska lista held campaign gatherings in Novi Pazar and Vranje over the previous weekend, according to N1.
The movement has used rallies and events in cities across Serbia as part of its campaign, with Niš becoming one of the locations for its latest major gathering.
The October 10 rally will take place at King Milan Square, with the event scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
Studentska lista campaigns ahead of October 25 vote
The rally comes as political groups intensify their activities ahead of the October 25 parliamentary election.
Students in blockade are participating in the election through the Studentska lista and have organized a series of campaign events across the country.
The group has framed the Niš rally around the idea of choosing Serbia’s future direction, while calling on supporters and other citizens to gather in the southern Serbian city.
A larger closing rally in Belgrade is also planned for October 22, three days before the parliamentary election, according to Danas.
