The planned sequel to the Michael Jackson biopic is expected to address the child sexual abuse allegations against the late singer, according to his nephew, Jaafar Jackson.

Jaafar, who portrays his uncle in the film Michael, discussed the upcoming second installment in an interview with GQ Middle East.

He suggested that the sequel would examine the allegations through Michael Jackson’s perspective. The actor also explained why his family believes that approach is important.

The comments follow criticism of the first film, which largely avoided the allegations that surrounded Jackson during his later career.

Jaafar Jackson Says Michael’s Perspective Matters

Speaking about the sequel, Jaafar said audiences could gain a different understanding of his uncle’s experiences.

He argued that public discussions about the allegations have generally focused on accounts presented by other people.

According to the actor, the Jackson family wants Michael’s perspective to receive greater attention.

Jaafar emphasized that his uncle’s voice should be part of any examination of his later life.

However, he did not explain exactly how the sequel would portray the allegations. The filmmakers have not publicly confirmed the specific scenes or events that will appear.

The first Michael film faced production complications involving its original storyline.

According to reports, a legal agreement prevented the filmmakers from depicting one of Jackson’s accusers in a fictionalized account.

Consequently, a planned sequence involving a police raid at Neverland Ranch was removed.

The Jackson family reportedly financed approximately $50 million in additional filming.

Despite the controversy, the biopic achieved major commercial success. Its box office performance strengthened expectations for a sequel.

Director Antoine Fuqua has also discussed his approach to the next film.

He said the production should focus on Jackson as a person rather than sensationalizing his life.

The Allegations and Controversy Surrounding the Films

Michael Jackson faced his first widely reported child sexual abuse allegations in 1993.

The following year, he reached an out-of-court civil settlement. The settlement did not establish criminal guilt.

In 2005, Jackson stood trial on separate child sexual abuse charges and was acquitted.

He consistently denied sexually abusing children.

Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50.

However, allegations against the singer continued to attract public attention after his death.

The 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland featured accounts from two men who alleged that Jackson abused them when they were children.

The Jackson family rejected the allegations and criticized the documentary.

Director Dan Reed, who made Leaving Neverland, also criticized the first Michael biopic.

He argued that the film presented an incomplete portrayal of the singer, particularly regarding his relationships with children.

Meanwhile, Jaafar Jackson has defended the importance of telling his uncle’s story from the family’s perspective.

The actor described Michael as someone who continued to show kindness despite the controversies surrounding his life.

The sequel is expected to examine a later period of Jackson’s career. However, its precise storyline and release date have not been confirmed in the reporting cited.

Whether the second film will provide a fuller account of the allegations remains to be seen.
