The Serbian community in Vancouver, Canada, is preparing for a celebration of traditional music and dance as Vancouver Kolo Fest 2026 takes place on Saturday, October 24, in Burnaby, British Columbia. The event will bring families and folklore enthusiasts together for a day dedicated to Serbian cultural heritage.

Organized by the Mlada Srbadija Folklore Ensemble, the festival will be held at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church.

Admission is free, and the organizers welcome visitors of all backgrounds.

The celebration will feature traditional folk dancing, live music and Serbian food.

Food sales begin at noon, while the cultural program starts at 2 p.m.

Vancouver Kolo Fest Keeps Serbian Traditions Alive

For Serbian families living in Canada, folklore events provide an opportunity to maintain connections with their cultural heritage.

Traditional kolo dancing has long been an important part of Serbian community celebrations, bringing different generations together through music and shared customs.

Mlada Srbadija has played a significant role in preserving these traditions in the Vancouver area.

The folklore ensemble has operated under the auspices of St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church for more than 50 years.

Through its activities, the group introduces younger generations to traditional Serbian dances and cultural customs.

The upcoming Vancouver Kolo Fest continues that mission by creating a space where families can celebrate their heritage together.

Festival Returns After Successful First Edition

The festival follows its inaugural edition in November 2025, which brought together Serbian folklore groups from Canada and the United States.

Local Greek and Bulgarian dance ensembles also participated, highlighting the cultural connections among Balkan communities in North America.

More than 100 performers took part in the first festival, according to the organizers.

This year’s event will continue the celebration with traditional performances, live entertainment and food.

Organizers are encouraging community members to bring their families and friends and support the young performers.
