Pljevlja Invests in Greener Public Spaces With €60,000 Project

Pljevlja is set to invest more than €60,000 in improving and expanding its green areas after the municipality and Montenegro’s Eco Fund signed an agreement supporting a new environmental protection project. The initiative, titled “Design, Arrangement and Maintenance of Green Areas,” is intended to improve public spaces while contributing to a healthier and more sustainable urban environment.

The total value of the project is €60,134.77, with the Eco Fund providing €48,131.01 through a subsidy. The Municipality of Pljevlja will cover the remaining amount, creating a joint investment focused on improving the appearance, functionality and environmental quality of public areas throughout the municipality.

The agreement was signed in Podgorica by Eco Fund Executive Director Draško Boljević and Danko Šarančić, Secretary of the Secretariat for Economy of the Municipality of Pljevlja. The partnership provides an example of cooperation between national environmental institutions and local authorities to address environmental challenges through targeted municipal investment.

According to the local administration, the project will focus on the planning, development and maintenance of green spaces. Beyond improving the appearance of the city and surrounding areas, expanding vegetation and maintaining public spaces can contribute to a more pleasant environment for residents while supporting broader efforts toward sustainable urban development.

Pljevlja Green Spaces Support Wider Environmental Goals

The investment is also significant in the context of Montenegro’s wider environmental objectives. Improving urban greenery can help municipalities create more attractive public areas while supporting biodiversity, improving local environmental conditions and providing residents with better spaces for recreation and everyday activities. Such projects are becoming increasingly important as communities look for practical ways to combine urban development with environmental protection.

For Pljevlja, the project offers an opportunity to improve public spaces while strengthening the municipality’s focus on sustainability. The Eco Fund’s financial contribution reduces pressure on the local budget and allows the municipality to direct resources toward environmental improvements that can have a visible impact on residents’ quality of life.

The Pljevlja green spaces project ultimately goes beyond landscaping. By expanding and maintaining green areas, the municipality aims to create public spaces that are healthier, more functional and more accessible to the community while contributing to long term environmental protection.

The cooperation with the Eco Fund also demonstrates how targeted financial support and local initiatives can work together to turn environmental priorities into concrete improvements. If implemented effectively, the project could provide residents with more attractive and usable public spaces while helping Pljevlja advance its broader sustainability goals.
