Trump Considers Firing U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle Amid Financial Allegations

President Donald Trump said he and his administration are considering removing Kimberly Guilfoyle from her position as U.S. ambassador to Greece following allegations that she asked a businessman to wire her $100,000 to cover an American Express bill.

“Well, we’re looking at it,” Trump told reporters when asked whether he was considering firing Guilfoyle. “We’re not happy.”

According to CBS News, businessman Eric Deters alleged that Guilfoyle asked him to provide the money in exchange for assistance involving the Trump administration ahead of her Senate confirmation hearing. Deters told the outlet that he believed the arrangement amounted to “pay-to-play.”

Deters provided CBS News with screenshots of text messages that he said were exchanged with Guilfoyle, including a message that appeared to request a wire transfer. He said he ultimately did not give her the money.

Sources familiar with the matter told CBS News that White House officials had been informed that the messages were authentic and that some administration aides had expressed displeasure over the situation.

Guilfoyle is reportedly aware that Trump is considering her future in the administration and has consulted her lawyer while seeking advice from administration officials, according to the report.

Additional scrutiny emerged following a Wall Street Journal report concerning audio recordings in which Guilfoyle allegedly discussed Greek businessmen who paid for her travel and reportedly encouraged foreign governments to conduct business with one of the businessmen.

Guilfoyle, the former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., was nominated by Trump to serve as the United States’ ambassador to Greece. Her confirmation hearing took place in July 2025, and the Senate confirmed her nomination in September 2025.

She was also highly visible during Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Greece last week. Rubio declined to comment on the allegations at the time, telling reporters he would not address a story that had been published only hours earlier.

As the controversy develops, Trump’s remarks suggest that Guilfoyle’s position could be under review. However, no final decision to remove her had been announced in the account provided by CBS News.

The allegations have not, by themselves, established wrongdoing, and the situation remains subject to further clarification.
