U.S. President Donald Trump appeared alongside American teacher Stephen Hubbard in the Oval Office on Friday following Hubbard’s release from Russian captivity.
During the meeting, Trump was asked whether his administration was working to secure the release of other Americans who remain wrongfully detained in Russia.
“We’re going to be working on them,” Trump responded, indicating that efforts to bring other detained Americans home remain on the administration’s agenda.
Hubbard’s appearance at the White House brought renewed attention to Americans held in Russian custody and the ongoing efforts to secure their freedom.Trump said he had personally raised Hubbard’s case with Russian President Vladimir Putin and thanked those involved in securing his return.
Hubbard told the president that he had been isolated from other foreign prisoners and did not know the other Americans being held in Russia.
The White House meeting highlighted Hubbard’s return home after years in Russian custody and renewed attention to the fate of other Americans who remain behind bars in Russia.
