The British actor is said to have taken part in screen tests at Pinewood Studios, as the search for Daniel Craig’s successor enters its final stages.

Callum Turner is reportedly among the leading candidates to become the next James Bond, with new reports suggesting that the actor has taken part in screen tests for the iconic 007 role.

Last month, reports indicated that the lengthy casting process had been narrowed down to three names: Turner, Slow Horses star Jack Lowden, and Frankenstein actor Jacob Elordi, according to NME.

Now, reports claim that Turner, who recently appeared in the New York-set romantic comedy One Night Only, visited Bray Studios in Berkshire on Friday, October 30. Screen tests for the role are believed to have taken place over the weekend, with between three and five actors reportedly invited to audition.

The Sun has also reported that Turner stepped down as a director of TwentyTwo Films Ltd, the production company he founded last year with his wife, pop star Dua Lipa. The move has prompted speculation that he may be clearing his professional commitments ahead of a major career opportunity.

A source quoted by the newspaper said: “Callum is making all the right moves to become the next James Bond. The role is time-consuming and commitment to it is a major priority for the producers.”

Turner previously emerged as a bookmakers’ favorite for the prestigious role. In December last year, Coral reportedly placed his odds at 7/4, ahead of candidates including Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill.

The official search for the next 007 began in May, following Daniel Craig’s departure from the role after No Time to Die, released in 2021. Craig played Bond for 15 years, becoming the longest-serving actor in the franchise’s history by duration.

Amy Pascal, a producer of the next James Bond film for Amazon MGM Studios, has said that the new 007 is expected to be selected by the end of 2026.

“We are really incredibly methodical. I mean, Daniel Craig is hard to follow. And it has to be something completely new — something that is heartwarming and exciting and different,” Pascal said.

Other actors have also been linked to the role. Tom Holland has reportedly been ruled out because of his Marvel commitments, while Taron Egerton has said he is not interested in taking on the part. Turner and Elordi have both previously avoided questions about their possible involvement.

Meanwhile, Gary Oldman has suggested that the next Bond may already have been cast, expressing support for his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden.

Reports have also named House of the Dragon actor Ewan Mitchell as a possible contender for the role of the next film’s villain.

The upcoming Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with a screenplay by Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders. It will be the first James Bond film since Amazon acquired creative control of the franchise in February 2025.

For now, no official announcement has been made, and the identity of the next James Bond remains a closely guarded secret.
