The Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, said today that he expects positive news regarding U.S. trade tariffs, announcing that intensive negotiations over the past months are likely to result in significantly reduced customs duties for key Macedonian products.
Responding to journalists’ questions about expectations for a favorable decision from the United States, Mickoski stated that a joint confirmation is expected later today.
“Yes, I expect good news today. Over the past months, we negotiated intensely. You may remember when parts of the opposition-aligned media criticized the government, claiming that Macedonia was facing 34% tariffs and other unfavorable conditions. I expect all of that to be clarified and confirmed with a joint statement today,” Mickoski said.
According to the Prime Minister, the anticipated agreement would include preferential treatment for approximately 63 to 64 products that are considered strategic for North Macedonia.
“I expect favorable news and that around 63–64 strategic products for us will be granted preferential tariffs, which will be in single digits, ranging between 0 and 6.5 percent,” he added.
If confirmed, the move would represent a significant boost for Macedonian exports to the U.S. market, particularly for industries of strategic importance, and would strengthen economic ties between North Macedonia and the United States — a development closely followed by the Macedonian diaspora worldwide.
