State Ceremony in Orašac Led by Prime Minister Đuro Macut
A central state ceremony marking Sretenje – Statehood Day of Serbia was held in Orašac, at the monument to Vožd Karađorđe, the site where the First Serbian Uprising began in 1804. The ceremony was led by Prime Minister Đuro Macut, who laid a wreath together with Republika Srpska Government President Savo Minić.
The program began with a memorial service for the insurgents, officiated by the Archbishop of Kragujevac and Metropolitan of Šumadija Jovan, followed by the national anthem “Bože pravde” and a cultural-artistic program dedicated to the historical significance of the uprising and the adoption of the Sretenje Constitution in 1835.
In his address, Prime Minister Macut described Sretenje as a symbol of national awakening and unity. He emphasized that love for the homeland must prevail over divisions and that Serbia can progress only through dialogue, solidarity and shared responsibility. He also highlighted peace as a fundamental value in preserving stability and ensuring continued development.
Vučić: Building a Strong, Successful and Proud Serbia
President Aleksandar Vučić extended Statehood Day greetings to citizens, stating that Sretenje should serve as motivation to continue building a strong, successful and proud Serbia. In his message, he stressed the importance of responsibility, perseverance and long-term development policies.
Vučić underscored that Serbia’s historical struggle for freedom remains a guiding principle in shaping its modern statehood and future direction. He called for unity and collective effort to safeguard national interests and strengthen institutions.
Dačić and Mali Emphasize Freedom, History and Unity
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić marked the occasion by recalling that Serbia’s modern statehood began in Orašac in 1804, describing February 15 as a day when historical legacy and contemporary aspirations intersect. He emphasized the centuries-long pursuit of freedom as central to Serbian identity.
Finance Minister Siniša Mali also congratulated citizens, highlighting pride in Serbia’s historical achievements and the responsibility to continue advancing the country’s economic and institutional development. He stressed that unity and cohesion among citizens are essential for achieving meaningful progress and long-term stability.
In Belgrade, landmarks such as Kula Beograd were illuminated in national colors in honor of the holiday, symbolizing national pride and the significance of Statehood Day celebrations.

Political representatives from Montenegro sent congratulatory messages to Serbia on the occasion of Statehood Day. Their statements emphasized the importance of good neighborly relations, cooperation, and mutual respect in the Western Balkans.
Montenegrin officials noted that regional stability and constructive dialogue are crucial for shared prosperity and European integration. The messages reflected ongoing communication between political actors in both countries and highlighted the broader regional dimension of Serbia’s national holiday.
