Protests Continue in Sarajevo After Fatal Tram Accident – Students Present Clear Demands

Protests in Sarajevo are set to continue today following a tragic tram accident that claimed the life of a 23-year-old man, while a 17-year-old girl remains seriously injured.

A new gathering is scheduled for noon in front of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where organizers expect strong turnout, particularly from high school and university students.

An informal student group leading the protests has called for unity, solidarity, and accountability, stressing that public transport safety must not be compromised.

Demonstrations have been ongoing for three consecutive days. Through Instagram profiles “hocel.ta.promjena” and “pravda.promjena.ba,” organizers published a list of specific demands.

Key demands include full transparency and the publication of all details related to the investigation, as well as the release of tram traffic data and onboard camera footage from the time of the accident. Protesters are also calling for the immediate withdrawal of old trams from service until they undergo full inspection and servicing, along with the public disclosure of technical safety reports. In addition, they are demanding the resignations of all responsible officials within the public transport system and the establishment of a safer, more reliable, and higher-quality public transport system in the city.

Protesters say demonstrations will continue until authorities address their demands and take concrete action.
