Slovenian Pensions Rising by 4.2 % in February Adjustment

Slovenian pensioners are set to receive a regular increase of 4.2 % in February, according to the Pension and Disability Insurance Institute of Slovenia (ZPIZ). The adjustment will also include a retroactive payment for January. More than 650,000 pensioners will see higher monthly payments.

The increase is calculated using Slovenia’s updated pension indexation formula, which weighs wage growth and inflation equally at 50 % each. This replaces the previous system that gave a higher weight to wage growth. Last year, average gross wages rose by about 5.9 % while consumer prices increased around 2.4 %, resulting in the 4.2 % adjustment.

Slovenia’s pension reform, adopted in 2025, aims to make the system more sustainable amid an aging population. The updated formula links pension growth closely to wages and prices to ensure long-term financial stability.

Pensioners may also receive other benefits, such as winter supplements and an annual Christmas bonus, though the total adequacy of pensions remains a topic of discussion given demographic changes.

The higher pension payments will be distributed on 27 February 2026. Retirees are advised to check with their banks or postal services for exact crediting details.
