U.S. Vice President JD Vance reiterated that Washington remains determined to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, following a new round of talks held in Geneva, according to DPA.
In an interview with Fox News, Vance said President Donald Trump “has many options and a range of tools” at his disposal to ensure that the Islamic Republic does not obtain weapons of mass destruction.
Iran has consistently denied accusations that it is secretly pursuing nuclear arms, maintaining that it has the right to develop nuclear energy strictly for peaceful purposes.
Vance’s remarks came just hours after U.S. and Iranian representatives met in Geneva for discussions aimed at easing tensions. An earlier round of negotiations took place this month in Muscat, Oman’s capital.
Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated since January, when Trump announced that an “armada” of military ships was heading toward Iran. In recent weeks, U.S. naval forces have remained stationed in the region, underscoring the fragile state of relations between the two countries.
