FedEx Files Lawsuit Against the U.S. Seeking Refund of Tariffs After Supreme Court Ruling

FedEx has filed a lawsuit against the United States government seeking a full refund of tariffs that were recently declared unlawful by the U.S. Supreme Court.

In an official statement, the company said it submitted a complaint to the U.S. Court of International Trade requesting reimbursement of all duties imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), after the Supreme Court ruled that those tariffs were unlawful.

According to the report, former President Donald Trump previously stated that the administration had no intention of automatically refunding the money to companies, adding that businesses would have to sue the government to recover the funds. He also noted that legal proceedings could take up to five years.

Experts say the refunds are likely unavoidable, and that many American importers who paid tariffs last year may now have legal grounds to seek compensation from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The total amount potentially subject to refunds could reach billions of dollars, although some of the costs may already have been passed on to consumers or business partners.
