Macedonia-linked Facebook page sparks political storm in Slovenia

A Facebook page administered from North Macedonia has triggered a major political controversy in Slovenia after publishing a series of audio recordings allegedly involving senior government officials.

The page, titled “Maske padajo #nismofejk”, has released several recordings that it claims contain conversations between members of the ruling party Gibanje Svoboda. Administrators of the page say they possess hundreds of such recordings and plan to publish them gradually online.

According to reports in Slovenian media, some of the recordings allegedly feature former party secretary general Vesna Vuković discussing internal party matters, personnel decisions, and relations within the government with other officials.

In another part of the recordings, Infrastructure Minister Alenka Bratušek is mentioned in connection with alleged irregularities linked to the major railway project, the Divača – Koper railway project. The conversations also reportedly touch on pressure on state institutions and tensions within the governing structure.

One of the recordings also references the speaker of the Slovenian Parliament, Urška Klakočar Zupančič, with claims that she had received additional payments through the party. She has publicly denied the allegations, describing them as “a complete lie and fabrication.”

Authorities in Slovenia have already launched an investigation to determine the authenticity of the recordings. Police are examining whether any criminal offense was committed in the creation or publication of the material, including whether the conversations were illegally recorded or manipulated using artificial intelligence.

Representatives of Gibanje Svoboda have dismissed the case as a smear campaign and have not ruled out the possibility that the recordings may have been edited or generated with the help of AI.

The affair has quickly become a major topic in the Slovenian public sphere, with media and political actors demanding answers about whether the recordings represent genuine conversations from within the country’s political leadership or a carefully orchestrated attempt at discreditation.

Although the Facebook page is administratively linked to North Macedonia, this does not necessarily mean the content was produced there; it only means the page itself is registered from that territory.
