The war between the United States, Israel, and Iran has entered its 12th day, with the White House stating that the conflict will continue until U.S. President Donald Trump determines that Iran is in a position to fully surrender.
White House spokesperson Carolyn Livit said at a press briefing that the initial plan estimated the “Epic Fury” operation would take four to six weeks. The operation’s objectives include destroying Iran’s missile and production capabilities, weakening its navy, preventing the development of nuclear weapons, and undermining regional terrorist proxy groups.
“The U.S. military is achieving these objectives faster than expected. Our troops are executing their mission efficiently and are well ahead of schedule,” Livit said.
She added that the final decision to end the operation rests with Trump as Commander-in-Chief. “Operations will conclude when the Commander-in-Chief determines that the military objectives have been achieved and that Iran is in a position to surrender fully and unconditionally—regardless of whether they state it or not,” Livit emphasized.
The conflict began on February 28, when U.S. and Israeli forces launched a major air and missile offensive against Iranian targets. In the initial hours, missile bases, air defense systems, and command infrastructure were struck, resulting in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. Iran retaliated with hundreds of missiles and drones targeting U.S. bases and regional targets.
The escalation has extended into a broader regional conflict, affecting military installations, energy infrastructure, and shipping in the Persian Gulf. The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping lanes, is effectively blocked.
