Luka Dončić delivered a spectacular performance for the Los Angeles Lakers in a high-scoring 142-130 victory over the Chicago Bulls. The Slovenian NBA superstar scored 51 points—a career high in a Lakers uniform—adding 10 rebounds and nine assists, just one assist shy of a triple-double. Dončić reached this peak in front of a raucous crowd at Crypto.com Arena, who chanted “MVP” as he left the game with 1:41 remaining, receiving a standing ovation. This marked his 13th game scoring at least 40 points in 82 appearances for Los Angeles.
Thanks to Dončić’s brilliance, the Lakers (41-25) moved up to third place in the Western Conference, winning seven of their last eight games and climbing from sixth place in just one week. The league’s leading scorer, averaging 32.5 points per game, has averaged 40.2 points over the past four games, all of which the Lakers won. Earlier in the season, Dončić narrowly missed a 50-point game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, finishing with 49 points. His career-high remains 73 points, achieved in January 2024 with the Dallas Mavericks against the Atlanta Hawks, where he became the first NBA player to score 70+ points with a 75% shooting efficiency from the field.
Meanwhile, Nikola Jokic continued his dominant form for the Denver Nuggets, leading the team to a stunning comeback in a 136-131 victory at San Antonio. The Serbian star recorded his 26th triple-double of the season with 31 points, 20 rebounds, and 12 assists. Despite not scoring in the fourth quarter, Jokic orchestrated the game with five key assists down the stretch, keeping Denver in contention and enabling the Nuggets to erase a 20-point deficit.
Jamal Murray led Denver with 38 points, while San Antonio’s standout was Stephon Castle with a triple-double of 30 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Denver now sits fifth in the West (41-26), level on wins but with one more game played than third-place Los Angeles. The playoff race is heating up with the Nuggets, Lakers, Houston, Minnesota, and Phoenix all competing for positioning, while the Spurs (48-18) hold second place in the conference, just one game behind first-place Oklahoma City.
