U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that Vladimir Putin could be offering limited support to Iran, including potential intelligence cooperation. His remarks came during an interview with Fox News.
Speaking to host Brian Kilmeade, Trump was asked whether Moscow might be sharing intelligence with Tehran about the locations of American troops in the Middle East. The U.S. president said such cooperation was possible.
“I think they might be helping them a little, yes,” Trump said, while suggesting that Russia’s actions could be influenced by Washington’s support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
Trump argued that from Moscow’s perspective, U.S. military and political backing for Kyiv could justify closer ties between Russia and Iran. “He probably thinks we are helping Ukraine,” Trump said, adding that countries such as China might see the situation similarly.
The U.S. president also addressed tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, saying the United States could escort ships through the strategic waterway if the situation requires it.
“We’ll do that if necessary,” Trump said, expressing hope that the situation would stabilize. However, he also warned that the United States could launch strong military actions against Iran in the coming week if tensions continue to escalate.
