The signature of a sitting U.S. president will appear on American currency for the first time in history. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the move as recognition of the “historic achievements” of Donald Trump.
The United States Department of the Treasury announced that Trump’s signature will be included on new dollar banknotes. This marks the first time that the name of a current president will appear on paper money.
The first $100 bills featuring the new signature are expected to be printed in June, followed by other denominations. Until now, standard practice required that only the Treasury Secretary’s signature appear on U.S. currency.
Bessent explained that the decision reflects Trump’s “historic achievements” and comes amid a broader wave of symbolic moves linked to his return to the White House.
The decision has already sparked debate across the United States. While some have welcomed the move, others warn that such steps could contribute to the creation of a personality cult.
