A powerful storm struck the Zagreb area, causing injuries to several people and significant property damage. Authorities have deployed more than 300 firefighters, mainly responding to fallen trees and damaged roofs.
Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević reported that several individuals sustained minor injuries, while one person in Zagreb County was seriously injured but is not in life-threatening condition.
He urged residents to stay indoors unless necessary, warning of the danger from falling branches and wind-blown debris. Wind gusts of up to 120 km/h were recorded overnight and into the morning. Around 150 vehicles were reportedly damaged, and initial estimates indicate that over 50 roofs were affected.
Among the damaged structures are the roof of the Dražen Petrović Basketball Center and part of the canopy above the emergency department at the Clinical Hospital Center Zagreb, with no injuries reported in those incidents.
Classes in primary and secondary schools across Zagreb and the surrounding county have been canceled.
Croatia’s civil protection service stated that the storm affected much of the country, with the hardest-hit areas being Zagreb and Zagreb County. According to their data, a child was seriously injured in the Šestak Brdo area within the municipality of Pokupsko, and one person was injured in Zagreb.
