Students Killed, Multiple Injured in Tennessee School Bus Crash

Two students were killed and at least seven others were injured on Friday when a school bus collided with a Chevrolet Trailblazer and a Tennessee Department of Transportation dump truck on Highway 70 in Carroll County. Authorities said the dump truck did not appear to have contributed to the crash.

The bus, carrying 25 students and five adults from Kenwood Middle School in Clarksville, was en route to a field trip in Jackson, Tennessee, the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System confirmed. The cause of the collision is under investigation.

Maj. Travis Plotzer, spokesperson for the Tennessee Highway Patrol, announced the fatalities during a news briefing and described the incident as “a parent’s worst nightmare.” He added that several injured individuals were airlifted to hospitals across the state, though the extent of their injuries has not been fully determined.

Response and support for the school community

Kenwood Middle School principal Karen Miller expressed deep sorrow in a statement to families, emphasizing that counselors will be available to support students starting Monday. “This is an unimaginable tragedy,” Miller wrote on Facebook, urging parents to watch for their child’s emotional needs and encouraging prayers for the school community.

Hospital updates

Four victims were transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, where they were reported to be in stable condition. Another 19 individuals were taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County, evaluated, and released, though it remains unclear how many sustained injuries.

Officials continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and more details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
