Police detained dozens of demonstrators in New York City on Monday during a protest against US arms sales to Israel and continued American military backing for its ally.
The action was part of a broader demonstration calling for Washington to halt weapons transfers and reconsider its role in the conflict.
The protest included members of Jewish Voice for Peace, one of the groups involved in the demonstration.
The organization said that police took about 90 people into custody, while New York police confirmed multiple arrests without publicly providing a full number.
Among those detained was Chelsea Manning, the former US Army intelligence analyst known for providing classified material to WikiLeaks.
Reports said protesters gathered near the Manhattan offices of Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, pressing them to oppose a proposed US bomb sale to Israel. Demonstrators voiced opposition not only to arms transfers but also to wider US military support tied to Israel’s ongoing military actions in the region.
The protest reflected the continuing intensity of public debate in the United States over Washington’s support for Israel, particularly as the conflict’s regional impact has widened.
In New York, which has become a major focal point for pro-Palestinian activism, the demonstration added to mounting pressure from groups demanding a change in US policy.
