Serbia’s Minister of Justice, Nenad Vujić, has again called on the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals to allow former Bosnian Serb general Ratko Mladić to receive medical treatment in Serbia.

Vujić said he is concerned about Mladić’s worsening health. He argued that the right to medical care is a basic human right and should not be denied.

“Any further delay could have serious consequences for his life,” Vujić said.

Repeated Requests from Serbia

According to Serbia’s Justice Ministry, the government has made several official requests to treat Mladić in Serbia. Officials say they have offered full state guarantees to ensure proper care and supervision. So far, they claim, there has been no clear response from international authorities.

Vujić urged the tribunal and other international institutions to act “without delay” and in line with humanitarian principles and international law.

He added that Serbia is ready to take full responsibility for any conditions required to provide Mladić with medical treatment.

Serious Health Concerns

Mladić, who is being held in The Hague, was recently hospitalized after suffering a mild stroke. He was later returned to the detention unit, but his condition is described as serious.

Medical reports indicate that he has a history of multiple strokes. He also suffers from cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, neurological damage, and kidney problems.

Over the years, Mladić has undergone several medical procedures, including surgeries on his heart and leg.

Since 2024, he has been held in a detention hospital in The Hague.

His son, Darko Mladić, said earlier today that his father’s condition has worsened after the latest stroke. “The situation is not good,” he told local media.
