Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said the exact date of the upcoming elections should be known around St. George’s Day, while using the occasion of the opening of a new railway bridge over the Tamiš River to comment on the political climate ahead of the vote.
Asked about the growing political activity of students and opposition figures, Vučić said he no longer sees a distinction between the two camps, suggesting they are now acting in the same direction.
He stated that the opposition and the protest-backed groups would have an opportunity to win at the ballot box, but warned that such an outcome, in his view, could bring a halt to major infrastructure projects.
Vučić argued that if his political rivals come to power, Serbia could face a slowdown in development, including the suspension of new railway and road construction. He also referred to regional political trends, saying there is currently a wider wave of change coming from neighboring countries.
His remarks framed the coming elections as a choice not only between political options, but also between competing visions for the country’s future development.
