Concert at “Jane Sandanski” arena
The Macedonian rock band Memorija has announced a major concert that will take place on October 23 at the Jane Sandanski Arena in Skopje. The event was presented as a conceptually different concert under the title “From history to Memorija”, with a clear intention to connect the band’s legacy with the broader development of Macedonian rock music. The concert is positioned as a central cultural event, structured not only as a musical performance but as a narrative experience that revisits key moments from the evolution of the local rock scene.
A return to the big stage
The concert marks a significant return of Memorija to the large concert stage after a long period without major joint performances, following their last appearance in 2016. The event is described as a symbolic reunion with the audience and an opportunity to reconnect with multiple generations of listeners who have followed the band’s work over the decades. The program is expected to include their most recognizable hits, alongside new arrangements and elements that reflect both continuity and renewal within the band’s musical expression.
Macedonian rock history as part of the programme
A central component of the concert will be the inclusion of music that shaped Macedonian rock from its earliest phases. The program will cover songs from the 1960s and 1970s, as well as material from the period leading up to the formation of Memorija, creating a chronological musical narrative. The concept foresees an audio visual format that combines live performance with documentary elements, aiming to present the development of the genre through carefully selected songs and guest appearances by artists from different generations.
Tribute to Toše Pop Simonov
A dedicated segment of the concert will pay tribute to Toše Pop Simonov, whose work has had a notable influence on Macedonian music. His compositions, created for various performers and bands, will be performed as part of the programme. The tribute is expected to feature Ivica Stojanovski Fic, a former member of Studeni Noze, accompanied by a band that includes the Ikonomov brothers, continuing the musical lineage connected to guitarist Koce Ikonomov.
Documentary series in 12 episodes
Parallel to the concert announcement, the band is working on a documentary project focused on Macedonian rock and roll. The project has been in preparation since the previous year and is planned as a 12 episode series intended for broadcast on the national television service. The documentary will not be limited to the story of Memorija, but will expand to include a broader overview of the development of the rock scene, documenting key figures, bands and milestones that have shaped the genre.
Guests and additional details
The announcement event gathered several prominent figures from the Macedonian music scene, including Jane Kodžobašija, Miki Jovanovski Džafer, Granit Taki and members connected to Biz-Bez. Additional names mentioned in relation to the project include Beni Shaqiri and Igor Džambazov, who is expected to appear as narrator of the documentary series and take part in segments of the concert programme. The concept also includes references to groups such as Bon-Ton, further reinforcing the intention to connect different periods and styles within Macedonian popular music.
New studio material and broader concept
Alongside the concert and documentary, Memorija has also announced work on new studio material, which is expected to complement the overall project. The combination of a large scale concert, documentary production and new recordings is presented as a unified effort to round off the band’s story in a structured and comprehensive way. The project is positioned not only as a retrospective, but as an attempt to preserve and reinterpret the legacy of Macedonian rock music through a contemporary format that integrates performance, storytelling and archival reflection.
