Macedonia may return to the Eurovision Song Contest next year, according to the new director of Macedonian Radio Television, Zoran Ristovski.
Ristovski said he is almost certain that the country will take part in the next Eurovision selection, expected to be held in Sofia.
“I am sure, almost 100 percent, that next year we are going to Eurovision in Sofia,” Ristovski said.
He also emphasized that MRT is preparing for Junior Eurovision 2026, saying public calls have already been announced for the selection of both the song and the vocal performer or performers who will represent Macedonia.
Ristovski said the broadcaster wants to move away from the previous way of selecting participants, adding that “the time of non transparent Eurovision selections is over.”
According to him, MRT recently held a meeting with the European Broadcasting Union, which reportedly offered a special package aimed at reducing the financial burden for the public broadcaster.
“They strongly want us to return to Eurovision and even offered us a package that would not be such a heavy cost for the public service,” Ristovski said.
Macedonia last competed in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022, when Andrea Koevska represented the country with the song “Circles.” Since then, the country has been absent from the competition.
