Strategic partnership between the two governments
Macedonia and Croatia have raised their bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership by signing an agreement on strategic cooperation between the two governments. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski described the agreement as more than a diplomatic act, saying it creates a framework for long-term partnership and a clear strategic commitment to deepen relations in areas important for the future of both countries.
Focus on EU integration and regional cooperation
During the meeting between Mickoski and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, the two sides discussed deepening cooperation with a special focus on European integration, economic development and stronger regional partnership. The talks also covered cooperation between investors, companies and institutions, confirming that the agreement is intended to produce practical cooperation beyond political declarations.
Croatia’s support for Macedonia’s EU path
Plenković reaffirmed Croatia’s support for Macedonia’s European path, presenting Zagreb as a strong and consistent supporter of the country’s EU integration. The visit was framed as confirmation of the friendship between the two states and of Croatia’s readiness to continue sharing its experience as an EU member state.
Economic cooperation and transport facilitation
Mickoski emphasized that the strategic cooperation agreement opens space for even stronger economic cooperation. He also pointed to the Croatian Parliament’s decision to amend local legislation and enable long-term visas for Macedonian transport workers, describing it as a positive and important example for Macedonia.
Broader importance of the visit
The meeting and the signed agreement were presented as a continuation of years of friendship and cooperation between Macedonia and Croatia. Both governments framed the partnership as a basis for deeper political, economic and institutional cooperation, with the European perspective of Macedonia remaining one of the central points of the relationship.
