White House Names New Ambassador Nominees for Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia

President Donald Trump has nominated Michael Young of Utah to serve as the next U.S. ambassador to Serbia, according to a list of nominations sent to the Senate and published by the White House on June 1.

The nomination was part of a broader diplomatic package that also included candidates for several other countries. Ronald Johnson of Massachusetts was nominated as U.S. ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Peter McCoy of South Carolina was nominated for Montenegro.

The U.S. ambassador post in Belgrade has been vacant since January 2025, after the departure of Christopher Hill, who had served in Serbia since March 2022. Since then, the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade has been led by chargé d’affaires Alexander Titolo, according to Serbian media reports.

Earlier in 2025, Trump nominated former Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich for the same post, but that nomination was later withdrawn after several months before the Senate. The White House did not publicly provide a reason for the withdrawal.

Young’s nomination must now go through the Senate confirmation process before he can officially take up the position in Belgrade.
