Macedonia is set to expand its air travel network with five new airline routes, strengthening the country’s connections with major European destinations.
The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski, who said the country is continuing to develop its aviation sector despite ongoing challenges in the global airline industry.
One of the new routes will connect Vienna and Ohrid, operated by Austrian Airlines. The service is expected to make travel to and from Ohrid easier, while also offering passengers better access to wider European and overseas destinations through Vienna.
In addition, Wizz Air is preparing to launch two new routes to Ohrid from the Polish cities of Wroclaw and Krakow. These flights are expected to boost tourism from Poland and further promote Ohrid as one of Macedonia’s most attractive travel destinations.
Officials say the new routes are part of a broader effort to improve the country’s air connectivity, support tourism, and make Macedonia more accessible to international travelers. The expansion is also seen as an important step for Ohrid, a UNESCO-listed lakeside city that remains one of the region’s most visited tourist locations.
The full list of all five routes has not yet been detailed in the report, but the confirmed connections point to a stronger focus on linking Macedonia with key European markets.
