Croatian coach Ivan Jurić is returning to Serie A after being appointed as the new head coach of Monza.
The Italian club confirmed that Jurić will officially take charge of the first team on July 1, following Monza’s return to the top flight. The club earned promotion back to Serie A after finishing third in Serie B and winning the promotion playoffs.
Jurić is a familiar name in Italian soccer, having previously managed several Serie A clubs, including Genoa, Verona, Torino, Roma and Atalanta. The 50-year-old began his coaching career in Italy after retiring as a player, first working as an assistant at Inter and Palermo before taking over Mantova in 2014.
One of the biggest moments of his coaching career came at Crotone, where he led the club to its first-ever promotion to Serie A. He later built his reputation with spells at Genoa, Verona and Torino, where he spent three seasons.
His more recent jobs, however, were less successful. Jurić had a short stint at Roma in 2024, followed by a difficult spell at Southampton. He then returned to Italy with Atalanta in 2025, but was dismissed after a poor run of results.
Monza returned to Serie A after just one season in the second division. The club previously spent three straight seasons in Italy’s top tier, finishing 11th and 12th in its first two campaigns before being relegated.
According to Italian media reports, Jurić has signed a contract that runs until the summer of 2028, although Monza did not officially disclose the details of the deal. The club described him as a coach known for his charisma, experience, intensity and aggressive style of soccer.
