Macedonia Loses Music Legend and First Eurovision Representative Vlado Janevski


Macedonia is mourning the loss of beloved singer-songwriter Vlado Janevski, who has died at the age of 65 following a short illness. He reportedly passed away at a hospital in Skopje, leaving behind a musical legacy that spanned more than four decades.

Janevski was one of the country’s most influential pop artists, known for timeless hits including Ako Ne Te Sakam, Evergrin, Doma Si E Doma, Ne Zori Zoro, Eden Baknež, and many others that became staples of Macedonian music. His distinctive voice and songwriting earned him generations of devoted fans.

Born in Skopje on November 27, 1960, Janevski graduated from the Faculty of Philology with a degree in English language and literature before pursuing a career in music that would make him a household name across the Balkans.

In 1998, he made history by becoming Macedonia’s first official representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 1998, performing the song Ne Zori Zoro in Birmingham. The appearance marked a milestone for the country’s participation in the international music competition.

Throughout his career, Janevski performed at numerous festivals and concerts across Europe and beyond, cementing his reputation as one of the most respected voices in Macedonian popular music.
