Macedonia is continuing its long term military modernization program with the arrival of new armored vehicles and the signing of additional defense agreements with the United States. Defense Minister Vlado Misajlovski announced that the country has now signed contracts with the U.S. worth approximately €339 million, covering equipment, training, cybersecurity, and advanced military capabilities aimed at strengthening the Armed Forces.
According to Misajlovski, all planned modernization projects are progressing in line with the approved defense budget. The delivery of the JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) fleet has been completed, while the first batch of Stryker armored combat vehicles is expected to arrive at the Port of Thessaloniki on Monday before being transported to Macedonia. Their arrival marks another milestone in the country’s ongoing efforts to upgrade its military capabilities and improve operational readiness.
Beyond armored vehicles, the Ministry of Defense has signed several new agreements with the United States that include the procurement of light infantry weapons, unmanned aerial systems (drones), cybersecurity equipment for military units and the Ministry of Defense, JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller) equipment used for close air support operations, advanced radio communication systems, upgrades to the military simulation center in Veles, technical documentation, spare parts catalogs, and expanded training programs for military personnel. Misajlovski also confirmed that additional defense agreements are currently being finalized and will require approval by both the Government and Parliament in the coming months.
The modernization initiative is part of Macedonia’s broader commitment as a NATO member to enhance defense readiness, interoperability with allied forces, and investment in modern military technology. Since joining the Alliance in 2020, the country has steadily increased defense spending while prioritizing equipment modernization, cybersecurity, and personnel training in line with NATO capability targets.
With major equipment deliveries now underway and new procurement agreements moving forward, Macedonia is entering a significant phase of its defense transformation. Government officials say the investments are intended not only to modernize the Armed Forces but also to improve national security, strengthen regional stability, and ensure the military remains capable of meeting the evolving security challenges facing NATO allies.
