Macedonia Reports 17 Fires in Just 24 Hours

Fire crews extinguished 16 fires across the country, while one blaze affecting a pine forest remained under control, emergency officials said.

Macedonia recorded 17 outdoor fires within a 24-hour period, prompting firefighting operations across several regions of the country.

Sixteen of the fires were extinguished, while one remained under control near the village of Belica in the municipality of Makedonski Brod, according to Macedonia’s Crisis Management Center. The remaining fire affected a pine forest and surrounding low vegetation.

Fires Reported Across Several Municipalities

Emergency crews responded to fires near villages, residential areas, agricultural land and illegal dumping sites.

Among the locations affected were Kučkovo near Skopje, Crkvino near Veles, Crveni Bregovi in the Negotino municipality and Stojakovo near Bogdanci. Officials said many of those fires involved dry grass, brush and degraded vegetation.

Firefighters also extinguished blazes near Dobrejci, Bosilovo and the area between the villages of Čanaklija and Gečerlija. In some locations, flames spread through low vegetation and waste-disposal areas.

Additional fires were brought under control near the St. Joachim of Osogovo Monastery outside Kriva Palanka, near the village of Carević in the Prilep municipality and in several communities around Štip, Berovo, Kumanovo and Skopje.

Officials Urge the Public to Be Careful

The Crisis Management Center said authorities were continuing to monitor conditions throughout the country.

Residents were urged to exercise caution outdoors and avoid activities that could ignite dry grass, vegetation or waste, particularly during hot and dry weather.

The concentration of fires across multiple municipalities highlights the elevated risk Macedonia faces during the summer, when high temperatures and dry vegetation can allow even small fires to spread quickly.
