Foreign tourists accounted for more than three-quarters of all visitors to Macedonia in June, with foreign tourism in Macedonia continuing to dominate the country’s tourism activity. A total of 113,436 tourists visited the country during the month, generating 221,608 overnight stays.
Foreign visitors represented 77.2% of all registered tourists in June, while domestic tourists accounted for 22.8%. Foreign guests also generated 70.8% of all overnight stays, compared with 29.2% by domestic tourists.
Turkish Tourists Lead Foreign Arrivals
Tourists from Turkey were by far the largest group of foreign visitors, with 24,570 arrivals recorded in June. Serbia ranked second with 8,522 tourists, followed by Germany with 4,396 and Bulgaria with 3,207.
The figures show that foreign tourism in Macedonia had the dominant share of both tourist arrivals and overnight stays during June.
Foreign Arrivals Rise Slightly in First Half of 2026
Despite the strong share of foreign visitors in June, overall tourism activity declined slightly during the first six months of 2026. From January through June, the total number of tourists fell by 0.5% compared with the same period last year.
The number of domestic tourists decreased by 3.1%, while foreign tourist arrivals increased by 0.3%. This means that the slight overall decline came alongside modest growth in the number of visitors arriving from abroad.
The total number of overnight stays also declined by 1.5% in the first half of the year compared with the same period in 2025. Overnight stays by domestic tourists fell by 3.3%, while those generated by foreign tourists decreased by 0.7%.
Overall, the figures for the first half of 2026 show a slight decline in total tourism activity, despite the 0.3% increase in foreign tourist arrivals. June data, however, show that foreign visitors continued to account for the large majority of both arrivals and overnight stays in Macedonia.
