Macedonian students in Melbourne gathered for a special language class organized by the Melbourne University Macedonian Student Society (MUMSS). The event gave students an opportunity to practice Macedonian and reconnect with their cultural heritage.
Teachers from the Victorian School of Languages (VSL) joined the gathering and led the class. Together, they helped students improve their language skills in a friendly environment.
The event also brought young Macedonians together. For many students, speaking their family’s language is an important way to maintain cultural connections.
Following the class, MUMSS thanked everyone who attended.
“Thank you to everyone who came to our Macedonian language class today! We had the chance to practice our Macedonian and connect with our culture,” the society wrote on Facebook.
Victorian School of Languages Supports Macedonian Students
The Victorian School of Languages played an important role in the event. Its teachers worked directly with students and encouraged them to continue learning Macedonian.
Moreover, MUMSS highlighted its longstanding relationship with the school.
“A big thank you to the wonderful teachers from the Victorian School of Languages (VSL) for coming to teach us! We are incredibly grateful for VSL’s support at our event today, and for their support over the years,” the organizers wrote.
The society also encouraged interested students to explore VSL’s Macedonian language programs.
These classes are available at several centers across Victoria. As a result, students have opportunities to study Macedonian beyond university events.
For young people growing up in Australia, such programs offer more than language lessons. They also provide opportunities to learn about their family’s background and meet others who share similar experiences.
More Macedonian Community Events Planned for 2027
The gathering was also an opportunity to celebrate the society’s activities throughout 2026.
Throughout the year, MUMSS organized events that encouraged students to participate in Macedonian community life.
Meanwhile, the society is already preparing additional activities for 2027.
“What a year its been, thank you all once again for your support across all our events this year. We hope to see you all at our many exciting events planned for 2027,” the organizers shared.
The Facebook announcement ended with a familiar farewell: “Se gledame naskoro!!” — “See you soon!”
Through these activities, MUMSS continues to encourage young Macedonians in Melbourne to maintain their language and cultural connections.
The society’s cooperation with VSL also shows how educational institutions can support community efforts to preserve Macedonian heritage abroad.
