A Cypriot-American family has created two annual scholarships to support students with Hellenic roots in the United States. The new awards will help young people pursue higher education and maintain ties with their heritage.

Philadelphia-area businessman John Televantos and his family established the scholarships through the Cyprus Children’s Fund. The organization honored him on October 24, 2026, at an event in Edison, New Jersey.

Televantos received the fund’s Humanitarian and Philanthropic Award. The ceremony took place during its annual Harvest Champagne Brunch at Plainfield Country Club.

From Cyprus to a Successful Career in America

John Televantos was born in Famagusta, Cyprus. At 16, he left the island after receiving a scholarship to attend high school in London.

He later studied chemical engineering at Imperial College London, where he earned a doctorate.

In 1993, Televantos and his wife, Artemis, settled in the Philadelphia suburbs. Today, he serves as a senior partner at Arsenal Capital Partners, a New York-based investment firm.

His own education began with a scholarship. Now, his family hopes to help other students follow a similar path.

The new Televantos Family Scholarship will provide two awards each year. However, the fund has not yet announced the award amounts or specific rules for the new program.

Cyprus Children’s Fund President Nicos Zittis thanked the family for its support. He also highlighted the importance of investing in the next generation.

How the Cyprus Children’s Fund Supports Students

The Cyprus Children’s Fund helps children and young adults through education and financial aid.

According to the organization, it has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships. It has also provided over $5 million in support to children through its sponsorship programs.

In addition, the fund has contributed nearly $1 million to nonprofit programs in Cyprus.

Its existing scholarships support eligible students of Greek or Cypriot descent who attend accredited US colleges and universities.

The fund considers academic achievement, leadership, community involvement and financial need when reviewing applications.

For its existing scholarship programs, the application period runs from January 1 through April 30 each year. Students should check the official website for current requirements and details about the new awards.

More information is available on the Cyprus Children’s Fund scholarship page.

For families of Greek and Cypriot descent living in America, the new scholarships offer another way to support education while keeping a connection to their roots.
