Several Slovenian media outlets were hit by cyberattacks over the weekend, disrupting access to their websites and affecting their ability to publish online content. The cyberattacks on Slovenian media affected, among others, the Koper-based regional newspaper Primorske novice and the investigative news portal Necenzurirano.
The website of Primorske novice has since returned online following a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, while access to Necenzurirano has continued to experience intermittent disruptions.
Attack Carried Out in Several Waves
Primorske novice reported that the attack was detected on Saturday evening. The attackers overloaded the outlet’s server with large volumes of internet traffic.
Findings so far indicate that the cyberattack was carried out in several waves and involved different techniques. Despite the disruption, the attack did not result in a system breach or unauthorized access to data.
Employees did, however, experience difficulties creating and publishing online content as a consequence of the attack.
Necenzurirano Continues to Face Disruptions
The investigative portal Necenzurirano also informed its readers through Facebook that access to its website remained limited as it continued to deal with the consequences of the cyberattack.
While Primorske novice managed to restore its website, Necenzurirano was still experiencing intermittent accessibility problems.
