Elon Musk has donated at least $276 million to Republican political groups since July, making him the largest publicly identified donor to the party ahead of the November 2026 US midterm elections, according to CNN.

A spokesperson for Musk’s political organization, America PAC, confirmed the amount on Monday, October 12, ahead of a federal campaign finance reporting deadline.

Of the total, $158 million went to the Senate Leadership Fund, a Republican super PAC working to maintain the party’s control of the US Senate.

Texas Senate Race Draws Major Financial Support

A significant portion of Republican spending has focused on Texas, where Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton faces Democratic state Representative James Talarico in a closely contested Senate race.

The Senate Leadership Fund has spent more than $100 million on the Texas contest. The organization said the money comes from a dedicated fund rather than resources intended for other competitive Senate races.

Texas is also an important state for Musk’s business operations.

The state has not elected a Democrat to statewide office since 1994, making the Senate contest a closely watched race ahead of November’s elections.

Musk Returns to Major Political Spending

Musk contributed nearly $300 million during the 2024 presidential campaign, supporting Donald Trump‘s return to the White House.

Following Trump’s victory, Musk became involved in the administration’s Department of Government Efficiency, an initiative focused on reducing federal spending.

In May 2025, Musk said he intended to reduce his political contributions. His relationship with Trump subsequently deteriorated over the president’s tax and domestic policy legislation.

Relations between the two have since appeared to improve. Trump recently awarded Musk the National Medal of Science.

Musk’s latest contributions indicate a renewed financial commitment to Republican political organizations ahead of the midterm elections.

Political campaigns and certain political action committees, including America PAC, must submit their latest financial disclosures to the Federal Election Commission by Thursday, October 15.

The filings will provide additional information about political spending during the final weeks before Election Day.
