Macedonia and Montenegro have agreed to introduce direct flights between Skopje and Tivat starting May 1, 2027, creating a new air connection between the two Balkan countries.

The route will initially operate twice a week, according to Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski.

Nikoloski announced the agreement on October 30 during a joint press conference in Skopje with Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister Filip Ivanović.

The new connection aims to make travel easier and strengthen tourism and business cooperation between the neighboring countries.

New Route to Connect Skopje With Montenegro’s Coast

Tivat is one of Montenegro’s principal coastal destinations, located near the Bay of Kotor.

Its airport serves travelers visiting popular Adriatic destinations, including Kotor, Budva and Porto Montenegro.

The planned direct connection will give passengers another option for traveling between Macedonia and the Montenegrin coast.

Nikoloski said the route would initially operate twice weekly, with the possibility of further development depending on demand.

He expressed hope that the new service would increase passenger numbers and encourage more frequent travel between the two countries.

The announcement follows earlier discussions between Macedonian and Montenegrin officials about improving regional air connectivity.

Although the starting date and initial frequency have been announced, officials have not yet provided complete details about the operating airline, flight schedule or ticket prices.

Passengers should therefore wait for the airline’s official timetable before making travel arrangements.

Macedonia and Montenegro Plan Stronger Economic Cooperation

The flight announcement formed part of broader discussions between Nikoloski and Ivanović.

The two officials also explored opportunities to strengthen trade and investment relations.

They agreed to organize a major business forum in 2027, bringing together companies from both countries.

The event aims to encourage new partnerships and expand economic cooperation.

Tourism remains an important area of potential collaboration.

Montenegro’s Adriatic coast attracts international visitors, while Macedonia offers mountain destinations, cultural attractions and Lake Ohrid.

Better transport connections could make it easier for travelers to combine destinations in both countries.

The route may also appeal to members of the Balkan diaspora who visit several countries during their summer holidays.

For travelers arriving from the United States or Canada, the additional connection could provide more flexibility when planning regional trips, depending on available connecting flights.

The Skopje–Tivat service is scheduled to begin on May 1, 2027.

Further information about the airline and ticket availability is expected before operations begin.
